The baseball Greenville Comets won an exciting South Central Conference game Wednesday afternoon over Vandalia on the GHS field.
The first four innings were scoreless, but the Comets posted five runs in the bottom of the fifth en route to a 6-0 win.
The Vandals had the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, but GHS pitcher Tyler Hutchinson struck out the next three batters to end the threat,
In the Comets’ half of the fifth, Dillon Halleman led the rally with a leadoff single. He scored on an error. Later in the inning, senior Craig Faulkner cracked a grand slam homer over the right field fence to make it 5-0. GHS added a run in the sixth.
Hutchinson pitched all seven innings, striking out 11 and giving up six hits.
On offense for the Comets, Ryan Hutchinson recorded two hits while Tyler Hutchinson, Faulkner, Kaeden Mollett, Halleman and Chanz Kunkel also had hits.
It was the baseball Comets 10th win of the season. They play at Pana Friday and have a home doubleheader Saturday against Carlyle.
