Comets Baseball Loses in Dramatic/Hard Fought Regional Championship Game

A wild regional baseball championship game was played Saturday on the Greenville field.

Breese Central claimed the title, edging the Greenville Comets 13 to 12.

Central took the lead with five runs in the first and added a run in the second to make it 6-0.

The Comets battled back to tie the score with a six-run fourth inning and took the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth; that lead vanished when Central came up with seven runs in the last of the fifth to lead 13 to 9. GHS posted three runs in the sixth to make it 13-12. The Comets had other runners in scoring position in the last two frames, but were unable to come up with another run.

The baseball Comets scored all 12 of their runs after there were two outs in the inning.

GHS ended the season with a 21 and 13 record.

Central is now 17-14. The Cougars will play Belleville Althoff at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Vandalia Sectional.
