The softball Lady Comets and baseball Comets have advanced to the semifinals of their regional tournaments. The regionals are being held in Greenville.
Monday, both Greenville High School teams defeated Vandalia. The softball Lady Comets were 12-1 winners in five innings, while the baseball Comets won 2-1.

Erin Smith was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and striking out four. She and April Stich totaled three hits each on offense, driving in two runs apiece, Brianna Van Kleef was credited with three RBI’s and Alexis Metzger had two.
The Lady Comets are now 16-20 for the season and play Breese Central at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jaycee Park. They played twice during the regular season, each winning one.
The baseball Comets had only one hit in Monday’s regional win. That came in the third inning from Jacob Hall. Vandalia led 1-0 after batting in the first inning.
The Comets scored runs in the last of the first and in the fourth, both on Vandalia errors, to grab the win.

Tyler Hutchinson pitched a complete game for the Comets, giving up four hits and striking out eight.
GHS is 20 and 12 for the season. The Comets host Mater Dei at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in a regional semifinal contest. They defeated the Knights, 6-1, about a month ago.
