Despite Missing Playoffs Comet’s End Season with 3rd Straight Win

The Greenville Comet football team came from behind three times to beat Vandalia Friday night 50-49. The Comets lead early in the first quarter after taking the opening drive in for a touchdown. Vandalia then scored 21 unanswered points and the Comets didn’t lead again until there were 8.3 seconds left in the 4th quarter. Down 7 points with 1:47 left on the clock the Comets got the ball on their 20 yard line after a missed Vandalia field goal.

Helped by a 15 yard personal foul penalty the Comets went down the field and scored a touchdown with 8.3 seconds left to come within 1 point. Lining up for a winning two point try, the Comets jumped offside and were pushed back to the 7 ½ line. A pass from Ryan Hutchinson to Seth Moore over the middle, as Moore came out of the backfield, was good and the Comets went up 50-49.

The Comets will miss the playoffs this year, but ended the season with three wins and will return most of their lineup for next season. Congratulations to the Comets and a tough come from behind win over Vandalia Friday night. Comets ended the season 4-5.
