GC Women’s Volleyball Coach On National Tournament Appearance

The Greenville College women’s volleyball team is in the NCAA Division III national tournament for the second time in school history.

After winning their sixth straight St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship, the Lady Panthers claimed the conference tournament title to earn a place as one of 64 teams in the national tourney.

They will play in a regional tournament in Rome, Georgia.

Greenville’s first match is Thursday against Emory University.

Head Coach Tom Ackerman said the women are excited to be in the national spotlight for the first time since 2010. He said this year’s team is a special group.

Coach Ackerman told WGEL the secret to the team’s success is “culture”. He said the team believes in who they are and they are self-sacrificing. He noted that level of buy-in and empowerment allows him to “sit back and watch them do their thing.”

The Lady Panthers enter Thursday’s regional match with a 24 and 7 record.
