Bluejays Advance To State Tournament; Eagles End Season With Sectional Loss

The 8th grade Greenville Bluejays have advanced to the state tournament.

In Class 3A sectional action Wednesday night in Divernon, the Bluejays defeated Gillespie by the score of 55 to 17. Greenville led 39 to 15 at halftime and allowed only 2 points in the second half.

The Bluejays are now 20 and 2 for the season.

They play in the Illinois Elementary School state tournament in Tolono at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The opponent will be Farmington Central, who is now 23 and 0 for the season.

The Mulberry Grove Eagles played in the Class 1A sectional Wednesday night and lost to St. Michael’s of Sigel by the score of 40 to 31.

The Eagles season ended with a 16 and 6 record.
