Comets End Season Friday In Regional Championship Game


The Greenville Comets’ quest for a regional title came to an end Friday night. In their own gym, the Comets lost to Nashville 72 to 56 in the regional championship game.

Nashville was led by center Royce Newman who had 30 points. The Hornets made 7 of 8 in three point shots, shot over 60 percent overall from the field and were 13 of 16 from the free throw line.

The Comets were led by David Holden with 17 points and Brady Simpson with 10.

Jeff Leidel talked to Head Coach Todd Cantrill after the regional championship game.

David Holden completed the season with 655 points scored, the second best scoring season in Comets history. He ended his career with 1,098 points, 8th best all-time.

Two Comets shot well in Friday evening’s three-point regional competition.

Ryan Hutchinson made 11 of 15 and David Holden sank 10 of 15 to advance to the sectional at Pinckneyville Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Also going on to the sectional are Drake Paden of Hillsboro, who made 10 of 15, and Nick Price of Gillespie, who won a shootout with Greenville’s Blake Doll for the fourth position.
