The Greenville High School freshman Comets performed very well to claim the championship at the recent Hillsboro Tournament.
The Comets won the title game over Alton Marquette, 70-68, in double overtime. Peyton McCullough scored 24 points for the champs. Cazdin Weber posted 18 points and Jack Schaufelberger had 15.
In the semifinals, the Comets trailed Taylorville by 16 points at halftime, then rallied in the second half to win by 7. McCullough once again led the offense with 20 points, Schaufelberger had 13 and Steven Jack scored 10.
To open the tournament, the freshman Comets won big over Auburn. Nathan Grull scored 12 points and McCullough added 10.
The GHS freshman boys had a 15-6 record for the season.
