The Greenville Comets fell out of first place in the South Central Conference with a 61-47 loss to Hillsboro Wednesday night.
The Comets led 7-2 after the first quarter then the Hilltoppers took control by outscoring the home team 26-5 in the second quarter.
Hillsboro led by 20 early in the third quarter, but the Comets kept battling and cut the deficit to seven late in the quarter. Hillsboro had another big offensive output in the fourth quarter with 24 points.
Fletcher Manhart was top scorer for the Comets with 24 points, 19 of them in the second half.
The varsity Comets have a 6-2 overall record and are 3-1 in the conference. Hillsboro is unbeaten after eight games.
The Greenville boys play at Southwestern Piasa Friday night.
