Lady Comets’ Head Volleyball Coach Tracy McEvers recorded the first win of her high school varsity career when her team defeated Gillespie Thursday night 25-17, 25-8.
Coach McEvers said the varsity girls improved in running the offense, which led to more points from kills. She added the serves were longer, the team played good defense, and the Lady Comets took advantage of free ball passes by the opponent.
Leading the team in kills were Natalie Iberg with five and Alison Ridens with four. Ridens served two aces.
Brooklyn Suzuki posted 12 digs and Iberg had nine.
Ridens led the assist category with eight while Justyce Stephenson totaled seven. Lilly Funneman came up with three blocks. Iberg served nine points, Gwyn Mitchell eight and Ava Curry seven.
The win gives the varsity GHS girls a 1-1 record. They host Hillsboro Monday.
The junior varsity Lady Comets defeated Gillespie 25-19, 23-25, 25-18.
