Comets Fall In Monticello Saturday

The Greenville football Comets were knocked out of the Class 3A football playoffs Saturday afternoon at Monticello.

The final score was 42-7.

The Comets fell behind 28-0 by halftime, and the Sages led 42-0 before the GHS squad scored.

With 2:39 left in the third quarter, Quarterback Ryan Jackson found Peyton McCullough all alone down field and the touchdown pass went for 64 yards. Dieken Graber converted the extra point kick.

The Comets turned the ball over three times, twice on interceptions and once on a fumble.

Monticello scored on plays of 34, 46, 65 and 90 yards.

Jackson completed 15 passes for nearly 200 yards. McCullough had 80 receiving yards.

Jaylon Betts and McCullough combined on a pass reception play. Betts caught the ball and lateraled it to McCullough. The play gained 34 yards.

Running back Grant Wilderman totaled 83 yards rushing while Tristin Filipiak gained 48 yards on the ground.

The Comets completed the season with a 5-5 record.
