The Greenville University Panthers were unable to overcome a 77 percent shooting performance by Principia College Tuesday night, and lost at home 128-119.
The basketball Panthers fell behind by 19 points in the first half and trailed by 12 at halftime.
The GU men were able to battle back and get within two points, 114-112 with just under four minutes to play in the game. They were unable to catch Principia, as the visitors outscored Greenville 14-5 down the stretch.
Leading the GU offense was Jarred Johnson with 25 points. Travis Dickey netted 16 points and Cam Irvin had 14.
Top scorer in the game was Principia’s Nathan Brantingham, a 6-5 Belleville native, who scored 49 points.
Greenville University is now 1-11 for the season and 0-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Panthers host Webster University at 3 p.m. Saturday. Spectators will be permitted for the conference game, but they must wear masks.
