Comets Fall In Regional

The 2022 season came to an end Monday afternoon for the Greenville Comets baseball team.

Hosting Vandalia in the quarterfinal round of the regional, the Comets were defeated by Vandalia 10-3.

The Vandals took the lead with two runs in their half of the first, but the Comets rallied in the bottom half of the inning when Chase Bellegante hit a three-run opposite field home run.

Vandalia regained the lead in the third with four runs, and added four more in the fourth.

Bellegante finished with two hits, including the homer and three RBIs.

Drew Potthast doubled. Other GHS hits were by Mason Barnes, Ryan Harnetiaux and Ryan Jackson.

Barnes was the starting pitcher for the Comets and went three and two-thirds innings. Nick Grull and Jackson pitched in relief.

Reid Well pitched a complete game for the Vandals, who are now 15-14 for the year.

The Comets finish the campaign with an 18-13 record.

Vandalia moves on to the semifinal round in its own Class 2A regional, facing Paris on Wednesday at 4.
