Aces Softball Team Playing For Regional Crown

The Mulberry Grove High School softball squad is playing for a regional championship Saturday.

The Aces defeated Bunker Hill Wednesday in the semifinals of the Class 1A Greenfield Regional by the score of 2-0 in eight innings. They face Hardin Calhoun Saturday for the regional title. The IHSA website indicates the game will start at 10 a.m. in Greenfield.

Mulberry Grove’s Lily Johnson turned in a stellar pitching performance and delivered the big hit in the eighth for the Aces.

Through seven innings, Johnson struck out 15 batters. In the top of the eighth, Jenni Mezo and Micah Greenwood reached base with bunts. Taylor Stone was issued a walk to load the bases.

Johnson stepped to the plate and cracked a single to record the only two runs of the contest.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bunker Hill got its leadoff batter on, then Johnson struck out two and got the last out on a fly ball.

The softball Aces have an 11-game winning streak and are 17-6 for the season going into the regional championship game.
