The Greenville High School softball teams opened their season Tuesday with victories at home against East Alton-Wood River.
The varsity girls defeated the Lady Oilers 7-0. Freshman Payton White was the winning pitcher, striking out six batters in the shutout.
Kaitlyn Lurkins had three hits on offense while Ava Potthast and White finished with two hits each.
Turner and Lurkins drove in two runs apiece.
In junior varsity play, Kenzie Stefanisin earned the pitching win, in a 2-0 decision for the Lady Comets. She struck out seven batters.
Stefanisin and Grace Cook scored the two runs.
