The Greenville Lady Comets volleyball team earned a varsity win Tuesday night against Vandalia during the annual “Volley for the Cure” event.
The varsity Lady Comets claimed victory in three sets, 25-20, 22-25, 25-14. In earlier action, the JV team also won in two sets, 25-22 and 25-20, while the freshman squad fell 13-21, 8-21.
Vandalia challenged the Lady Comets throughout the night with strong hitting and blocking, but Greenville found its rhythm in the deciding set behind standout play from Alison “AJ” Nemnich, who finished with 10 kills and just one error—most of them coming in the final set.
Coach Lee Coakley praised the team’s defense, setting, and overall focus in rallying after a slow start. He said overall, it was a successful night of competition and community support for a good cause.
The evening also featured fundraising efforts for the Lem Rhodes Foundation, including a silent auction, split-the-pot drawing, and the auction of game balls signed by seniors from both teams. The Greenville ball was purchased by Latisa Hediger, with help from Principal Kara Harris.
