The Greenville Comets varsity football team suffered its first defeat of the season Friday at Hillsboro by the score of 35-14.
The Comets got off to a good start, with the defense forcing Hillsboro to punt, then the GHS offense put together an 11-play touchdown drive which concluded with an 11-yard pass from Bauer Ackerman to Aiden Linnabary.
Drake Graber’s extra point kick was good, making it 7-0.
Using an effective running game, Hillsboro tied the score in the opening quarter, then posted three touchdowns in the second frame to lead 28-7 at halftime.
The home team went up 35-7 in the third quarter. The Comets recorded their second TD in the fourth quarter on an Ackerman to Isaiah Matthews 37-yard pass.
The Comets lost the ball five times in the game, on two fumbles and three interceptions. The GHS team, had several good opportunities to score more touchdowns, but was unable to cash in.
Hillsboro totaled 316 yards on the ground, and had one touchdown pass.
The Comets recorded 111 yards rushing and 211 yards passing.
Graber ran for 74 yards. Linnabary caught eight passes for 56 yards, and Matthews had five receptions for 84 yards.
The Comets play their homecoming game on Friday night against Pana. They enter the contest with a 3-1 record.
