The City of Greenville has announced it will initiate its fall leaf vacuuming program on Monday, October 19. It will go through November 13, weather permitting.
Residents are asked to rake leaves to the edge of the curb or yard so the vacuum truck can reach them. Leaves should not extend into the roadway.
Keep piles no higher than three feet, and make sure sticks, brush and other debris are not in the piles, because they can cause a machine malfunction.
The city has been divided into three sections and leaves will be picked up Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Go to greenville illinois . com to see a map showing the day your leaves are picked up.
Public Works employees will drive every street in that section, so there is no need for residents to let the city know they have leaves out. If all of the leaves cannot be picked up on your day, the work will extend into the next day.
Jason Heckman, Public Works Department supervisor, said bagged leaves may be placed out for collection on the same days. Only bio-degradable bags or containers that can be composted can be used, and free bags are available at the Municipal Building. Plastic bags will not be accepted.
For questions, call the Municipal Building at 664-1644.
The city also recommends citizens can mulch leaves in place with a mower, or place leaves in a compost bin for on-premises composting.
