A University of Illinois 4-H Extension Program public speaking competition was held earlier this month on the Kaskaskia College main campus.
Young speakers from Bond, Marion and Washington counties participated in the categories of formal speech, illustrated speech and oral interpretation.
Emma Morgason of Bond County was the Overall Beginner Junior Division winner among those 8 to 13 years of age.
County delegates from Bond County, advancing to state, include Morgason, Ashlyn Richards and Allison Hemker. Alternates for the county are Ben Young, Ransom Detmer and Hunter Hemker.
The event at KC determined the county delegates and alternates who will compete at the state competition in late April. Brandi Wilkins and Nathan Wilkins, professors at Kaskaskia College, were judges.
